Business Manager/Financial Secretary-Treasurer
PAT LONG
voted into finals for
Ward 3 Alderman
Manchester, NH |
 |
Defying the wishful
thinking of anti-working family operatives that organized labor was,
and shall remain, a non-entity in New Hampshire, Local 474 BM/FS-T
Pat Long
(far right in picture above) beat out a crowded
field to take his place in the finals for WARD 3 ALDERMAN in
Manchester, NH. Many of Pat's co-workers, neighbors family and
friends showed up to show their support for such a great candidate.
The final election is scheduled for November 8, 2005 and we will
certainly keep you posted as to how you can help.

NOTE: If you
are called on in the next six weeks to assist Pat's candidacy in
any way, please take the time to respond. This is important for
our Council as we continue the quest to raise the quality of life
for working families from all walks of life. Thank you...

BY
GEORGE
W.
BUSH |
 |
As you have surely read by now, our president
GEORGE W. BUSH has
suspended Davis-Bacon provisions from all of the repair work in the
Gulf Coast. People are devastated, need to start over, and our
leader's first idea out of the box is to attach nothing more than
minimum-wage provisions for these workers. Eventually, Bush's
onerous policies will create a legacy that is truly deserved, but we
must live in the moment, and when is enough, enough? These workers
need to re-build their cities and towns. How does this meat cleaver
approach to wage protections help anyone but the
Halliburton's (Remember
them? - the old Brown and Root cats?) VP Dick Cheney ran this
company.
Check out this link:
http://www.halliburtonwatch.org/about_hal/about.html
Bush said
"...Applying prevailing wage provisions would have increased the
cost to the federal government...." Why don't we all work
for free? You know, he's on to something here, as this would keep
the costs down. It's a shame we can't all go to YALE and learn these
valuable economic equations. Do you think the
supermarkets will follow suit
and give the food away for free? How about the department stores?
Maybe throw in a few free pairs of pants, some shoes and a couple of
shirts. If it wasn't so sad, it would be funny. Our country is being
run like a skit from Saturday Night Live and he still has the
support of 4 out of 10 people. If you voted for this guy, you won.
What it is you won we are still trying to figure out.
Many in Congress are outraged at this latest decision. To read some

Despite Workers being the
all-important cog-in-the-wheel of our country, they remain
vastly underappreciated...
Local 474 President Dave "Shake & Bake" Paquette took
the time to submit his thoughts about Labor Day to the
Bow Times & Hooksett Banner. Both newspapers
printed these thoughts and we thank them - and Dave - for
putting things in the proper perspective...A nation that
fails to recognize and respect the role of labor is a nation
that is doing its workers a terrible disservice.

Enjoy a Happy & Safe
LABOR DAY! |
|
%20and%20Billy%20Beam%20Dog%20Griffin%20(right)1c.jpg.jpg) |
"Labor Day differs in every essential way from the other
holidays of the year in any country," said Samuel
Gompers, founder and longtime president of the American
Federation of Labor. "All other holidays are in a more
or less degree connected with conflicts and battles of man's
prowess over man, of strife and discord for greed and power,
of glories achieved by one nation over another. Labor
Day...is devoted to no man, living or dead, to no sect,
race, or nation." |

Adam Boudreau... |

Adam Boudreau's death in
an on-the-job accident in Boston last October shook the foundation
of Local 7 to the core. He left behind his wife, Christina
and their young son, Lukas. Recently, Christina found herself
in need of some help around her property, and the call went out to
Local 7. As usual, they responded!
