Dave "Shake" Paquette just
apprised me of George's passing. George had lost both legs and
Shake's E-mail says it all: "...George was an inspiration to
the organized members at our union meetings and he butt-walked up
the stairs into our hall or a few of us would carry him and his
motorized wheelchair. George was also the only older seasoned member
to give input on the direction that our union should be headed, and
by speaking from his heart to regarding the fortification of our
brotherhood versus the outside forces that continue to try to break
down our organization...."

was the oldest New England Sled Hockey team member. He was 2007
recipient of the New England Disabled Athlete of the Year...

ordination as priest of The Society of Jesus in June
1969. In 1970 he began what became his life work as intern and
assistant director of the Institute of Industrial Relations at the
Labor Guild before becoming its Director & Chaplain from 1984 to

Local 7's
Gerry Beaudoin
goes "BACK TO VIETNAM"... |
NOTE: Local 7 retiree Gerry Beaudoin is one of the finest,
most positive and upbeat gentleman I have ever met. Quiet and
unassuming, he was also a first class ironworker. Anyone who
knows Gerry will corroborate my feelings about him. The PATRIOT
LEDGER'S Jack Encarnacao recently wrote a story about Gerry that
deserves to be seen by Gerry's friends and fellow ironworkers...
Jay Hurley
WEYMOUTH - Helicopters chopped overhead and artillery popped
constantly in the jungles and rice paddies. Soldiers in forest-green
fatigues trudged around the base in Cu Chi, Vietnam.
Among them that October of 1969 was Weymouth-born Gerry Beaudoin,
who was about to turn 22. He was wrapping up a year of duty as a
helicopter pilot in Cu Chi with a birthday celebration.
I turned 22 years old on Oct. 2, and that was at the end of my
tour, Beaudoin remembered. I had eight days left in country and
I was done with flying missions on that day..."
Fast forward about 40 years. It was October 2007 in Cu Chi, Vietnam,
and Beaudoin was standing in the same spot, this time celebrating
his 60th birthday.
But not as a solider. As a tourist...
