Local 7 member's son making a
difference in New Hampshire...
Can you assist him? |
Jack Rice
(age 8), son of Local #7 member Kenneth "Irish" Rice,
has been featured on the front page of the Nashua
Telegraph (NH) for his fundraising efforts on behalf
on the Humane Society for Greater Nashua. The
complete story is attached below. We would love for his
online fundraising activities to be mentioned on the
District Council's website news section and/or in an
upcoming edition of The Column, in the hopes that fellow
ironworkers may want to support Jack in reaching his
goal. To date Jack, a third-grade honor roll student,
has raised $500 out of his goal of $1,630. Donations
can be made at:
www.firstgiving.com/jacktrice.
Thanks for your
consideration,
Kenneth & Lara Rice

Mike Ruggieri appointed to
Beacon Mutual Insurance Company Board of Directors... |
As it
appeared in today's
Providence Journal:
Governor Carcieri yesterday replaced two labor-backed
Democrats on the board of Beacon Mutual Insurance Co. with
two other union leaders. Raymond C. Coia and
Michael J. Ruggieri will fill the seats held by George
H. Nee, secretary-treasurer of the Rhode Island AFL-CIO, and
Henry Boeniger, government relations director of the
National Education Association, a teachers’ union. Nee and
Boeniger’s terms expired in November, but they had remained
on the board pending the governor’s appointments....

Readers may be interested to know that these wreaths -- some
5,000 -- are donated by the Worcester Wreath Co. of
Harrington, Maine.
The owner, Merrill Worcester, not only provides the
wreaths, but covers the trucking expense as well. He's done
this since 1992. A wonderful guy.
Also, most years, groups of Maine school kids combine an
educational trip to DC with this event
to help out. Making this even more remarkable is the fact
that Harrington is in one the poorest parts of the state. |
